Vincenzo Scordo: A Different Way of Experiencing the Mediterranean

Vincenzo Scordo: A Different Way of Experiencing the Mediterranean

Vincenzo Scordo is the founder of Visit Mediterraneo, a tourism project promoting authentic and sustainable experiences in Calabria and the Mediterranean. His work brings together tourism promotion, marketing, communication, destination development, hospitality, and experience design.

Through Visit Mediterraneo, he connects travelers with local people, food, landscapes, traditions, and activities—helping them experience a territory through all five senses.

I believe tourism should begin with a relationship

My name is Vincenzo Scordo, and I am the founder of Visit Mediterraneo.

I was born and raised in Calabria, a land where the landscape is never separate from the people who inhabit it.

Here, a road leads not only to a view but to a story; a meal is not only something to taste but also a way of meeting a culture; and hospitality is not a service alone but an invitation to feel at home.

Visit Mediterraneo grew from this belief: that travel becomes more meaningful when it is connected to local people, places, traditions, skills, food, and time.

I do not want to show people where to go simply. I want to help them understand why a place matters

I have always been interested in the meeting point between territory and communication: how a place tells its story, how people discover it, and how an idea can become a real experience.

Through my work in tourism promotion, marketing, communication, and experience design, I have developed projects that bring together destinations, local businesses, producers, guides, hosts, and travelers.

My role is often to connect things that already exist – landscapes, traditions, talent, hospitality, and local knowledge – and give them a clear, contemporary, and accessible form.

Visit Mediterraneo is the expression of that work. It is a platform and a vision focused on the Mediterranean, with a strong connection to Calabria and places such as Tropea.

The project presents experiences that invite people to bike, walk, taste, cook, learn, make, see, dine, and relax.

These are not just categories on a website. They are different ways of entering into contact with a territory.

My work combines several disciplines:

  • Tourism promotion: making destinations, places, and local opportunities more visible.
  • Marketing and communication: transforming ideas and local identities into clear stories and useful experiences.
  • Experience design: creating journeys built around people, activities, memories, and the five senses.
  • Destination development: connecting tourism with the cultural, environmental, and economic strengths of a territory.
  • Partnership building: bringing together hosts, producers, guides, artisans, restaurants, institutions, and travelers.
  • Digital storytelling: using websites, social media, campaigns, images, and video to communicate the value of a place.
  • Hospitality development: promoting forms of accommodation and welcome that help visitors feel connected to local communities.

The vision behind Visit Mediterraneo

My vision is a Mediterranean where tourism is not measured only by arrivals, overnight stays, or consumption, but by the quality of the relationships it creates and the value it leaves behind.

I believe the future of tourism should be:

  • Local, because every place deserves to be understood on its own terms.
  • Human, because the most important part of a journey is often the person we meet.
  • Sustainable, because development must remain possible for future generations.
  • Authentic, because travelers are looking for real stories rather than interchangeable products.
  • Slow, because attention requires time.
  • Inclusive, because hospitality should welcome different kinds of travelers and needs.
  • Creative, because communication and innovation can help local communities imagine new possibilities.

The five senses as a method

Visit Mediterraneo is built around the five senses because knowledge of a place does not begin only with information. It begins with experience.

We smell the herbs, citrus, sea, wood, and earth. We see the landscape, architecture, faces, and changing light. We touch materials, food, tools, and handmade objects. We hear voices, stories, music, wind, and silence. We taste the products and recipes that carry the identity of a community.

But the experience goes beyond the senses. It includes the people we meet, the places we visit, the activities we take part in, and the memories we create.

My mission is to help travelers discover the Mediterranean in a more conscious and personal way, while helping local communities communicate and develop what makes them unique.

That means promoting tourism that:

  • Gives visibility to local people and skills.
  • Encourages visitors to explore beyond the most obvious attractions.
  • Supports small businesses, producers, artisans, guides, and hosts.
  • Connects food, culture, nature, hospitality, and communication.
  • Makes sustainability practical and understandable.
  • Creates experiences that are valuable for both visitors and residents.

Projects and ideas

The Visit Mediterraneo ecosystem brings together several ideas and initiatives:

  • Local experiences: cycling, food, cooking, tasting, nature, learning, making, dining, and relaxation.
  • Widespread hospitality – Slow Village: accommodation and welcome understood as a network of people and places, rather than a single isolated structure.
  • Sustainable tourism: development based on shared social responsibility and respect for communities and territories.
  • Mediterranean food culture: food understood as daily life, local production, seasonality, and cultural memory.
  • Slow tourism: traveling with time for deeper knowledge and a more attentive relationship with a place.
  • Digital detox: creating opportunities to pause digital habits and recover attention, presence, and time.
  • Donate a Tree: an environmental protection initiative connected with ecological culture, the Italian landscape, and tree planting.

These initiatives are part of one larger idea: tourism can become a tool for awareness, not only a way of moving from one attraction to another.

Leave Calabria with more than photographs.

Remember a conversation, the taste of a seasonal ingredient, the sound of a village, the effort behind a handmade object, the generosity of a host, the rhythm of slow living, or the human connection with communities.

Feel at home. You are a guest.
